If you are a bus, coach or lorry driver you need to ensure that you have completed your Driver CPC qualification. If for any reason you haven't completed your qualification or miss your training deadline to renew your Driver CPC then you will not be able drive professionally, and if you are caught doing so during this time you could be fined up to £1000.
There are some exceptions when it comes to Driver CPC but it depends on which year you passed your driving test including the following:
Lorry Drivers - Catagory C, C1, C+E and C1+E - Before 10th September 2009
Bus or Coach - D, D1, D+E, D1+E, Before 10th September 2008
Bus or Coach (not for hire or reward) - D(101) - After 1991
Minibus (not for hire or reward) - D1(101) - Before 1997
However, it is still required that you will need to take periodic training if you fall into the categories above.
If you don't fall into any of these categories, to qualify for Driver CPC you must undergo 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to maintain your Driver CPC.
Once you have completed the relevant training for your Driver CPC qualification you will be issued with a Driver Qualification Card which will be issued to you straight away if you complete your training within 12 months of your deadline. If you happen to complete your training early than 12 months you will not receive your card until your current card expires.
It is important to note that you MUST keep your card on you at all times and failure to do so can result in a fixed penalty fine of £50.
Driver CPC Training gives access to professional bus, coach and lorry drivers to gain the relevant qualification in their area across the UK. To drive a bus, coach or lorry professionally you are required to have a Driver CPC qualification. This qualification has to be renewed every 5 years, and failure to do so can result in a £1000 fine.
