Why checking your tyres is so Important - Save cash on your MOT
Being told you need new tyres is never a fantastic thing to hear. With the cost per individual tyre, another chunk of money feels lost to the ether. But the tyre condition is one of the most important aspects of your vehicle. If not properly maintained it can seriously affect the performance and safety of your car. Well that’s why we’ve made this article. We want you to know what you need to look out for when it comes to your tyres. By the end of this you will be able to answer the question - why is it so important to treat your tyres properly?
Cracks and Tears
This is one of the most obvious issues you’ll notice when it comes to your tyre integrity. They can be caused by rough usage as well as age and if you don’t use your vehicle much and therefore don’t put a lot of wear on your tyres then you will likely think that you’re safe from damage such as this. You’ll be surprised to discover, however, that tyres age- the rubber weakens then it cracks and tears – just because your tyres have a legal amount of tread remaining, the age of your tyres can still lead to damages. (remember to check for damage between the crevices of tread on the tyre, not just on the outside).
Under-inflation and Over-inflation
It’s important that you remember the correct level is an important aspect of tyre safety. Underinflated tyres mean more wearing on the ground, as well as poor drive control due to strain. On the other hand, overinflated tyres have a bigger chance of blowing out due to being over-pressurised – meaning a chance of accident is more likely. A correctly inflated tyre will mean even wear on your tread and lengthens the life of your tyres – fewer changes means money saved!
CurbingWe’ve all curbed our tyres at some stage in our life – this can be very damaging to tyre health. It causes bulges to form in your tyre wall and if it’s found during an MOT in Penrhyn Bay or anywhere else for that matter – your car will fail MOT. The reason for this is a higher blowout of the structural wall of the tyre – it’s been weakened. Obviously, the best thing to do it be aware of your tyres and then curb when parking. If in doubt get them checked out. NailsWhile driving ever hear a bit of a ‘CLINK’ when you’re rolling along? You might leave the car and bam, a nail sticking out of your tyre. It’s easy to think that a nail in the tyre isn’t a urgent problem that has to be solved, this is especially true If there doesn’t seem to be an air leak – but just because there’s no air leak doesn’t mean that a nail in your tyre doesn’t need fixing ASAP. A nail in the tyre can compromise the structure of the tyre and means it’s unsafe for the road. Don’t panic yet! A nail doesn’t mean the whole tyre need be replaced. In fact, it may just need a puncture repair if it’s gone through the main centre section. It’s only when the nail has gone through the inner side of the tread that a replacement tyre is needed. AS soon as you notice a tyre in your tread, get it booked into the garage for technicians to diagnose and resolve the issue immediately.
Tyre health is an important aspect of your vehicle to keep on top of checking your and not just when you are forced to have your annual MOT in Rhos-on-Sea. |
